Here’s a list of movies you can watch on Netflix or if you prefer to read the book I attached links for you.
I know there are a lot of movies based on books but these are the ones I’ve seen and recommend. There’s a little bit of something for everyone.
- 12 Years a Slave
If you haven’t seen the movie, you definitely should. It’s a memoir from a born free black man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery. We go through the struggles and the pain of the Afro-American people when they were used as slaves to pick up cotton and treated with no respect. A true story about the will power of a man trying to survive so he can be with his family again.
2. The Cat in the Hat
All the kids love Dr. Seuss. And the movie version is fun for all the family. Staring Mike Myers as the Cat. You’ll have lots of fun while your kids are being entertained.
3. The Notebook
If you haven’t seen the movie, I would recommend to read the book first. It’s a beautiful story explaining the meaning of love and soulmates.
4. Bridget Jones’s Diary
Classic chick-flick movie. Light and funny read for the grey days. The story of Bridget and her ironic attitude going through her thirties trying to maintain healthy social life.
5. Charlie and the Chocolate factory
Fun for the whole family. I prefer the Johnny Depp version but you can also watch the original on Netflix that’s called Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory.
When I read the book I was very impressed by the story of this young girl and her struggles to fit in a society she doesn’t belongs to. Then I read the trilogy and I loved it. Now you can watch all the movies on Netflix if you don’t feel like reading. But I recommend reading the book so you can feel the excitement of her adventure.
7. Bird Box
The story takes place during three time periods. In a post-apocalyptic American we follow a mother trying to keep her kids safe from unseen threat that kills everyone who sees it. She travels with them to find a safe haven. It’s a thriller to read and watch with an unexpected ending.
8. A series of unfortunate events
It’s a series of 13 books following the orphans Baudelaire made into a movie staring Jim Carrey as the main villain and then made into tv series with Neil Patrick Harris. Although it’s classified as kids novels, the stories often have a mysterious and dark feeling to them. I loved the movie and the tv show, now I’m starting the book series to enjoy.
9. The Martian
Staring Matt Damon, The Martian was one of the best movies that came out in 2015. The story follows an astronaut’s will to survive on Mars after he gets stuck there. It’s fascinating from the beginning to the end.
10. Angels and Demons + The Da Vince Code
For all the mystery fans, you can now watch the first 2 movies from the book series about Robert Langdon on Netflix – Angels and Demons and The Da Vince Code. Personally, I loved the codes and symbols in both the books and the movies. I would recommend again first read the books if you can because the experience is so much bigger and better.
If you have any recommendations for me, you’re welcome to leave a comment. More movies coming soon!
